A glimpse of our colorscript! We designed the lighting in our film to be an element that furthers the storytelling. Since our short centers around the fear of being “outed,” we defined light to represent exposure and danger, and shadow to represent concealment and safety. As our characters travel through light and shadow, we get an indication of their current emotional state in the story. More of this to come in the future!

Hi Tumblr! Long time no see!

I’m excited to share the product of my absence!  For the past year, my thesis partner and good friend Esteban Bravo and I have been developing a computer animated short film, “In a Heartbeat,” for our senior thesis project at Ringling College of Art + Design. We are launching this Kickstarter to help cover the costs of hiring a professional composer and sound designer for our film!

“In a Heartbeat” follows an insecure middle school boy who has yet to come to terms with his sexuality. When he crosses paths with the most popular boy in school, his heart pops out of his chest to go after the boy of his dreams. We are currently mid-production, about to wrap on animation and begin lighting, rendering, and compositing the film, but we need YOUR help to make this film the best that it can be!  Any contribution helps, be it a donation or simply sharing the video and spreading the word!

Amigos y familia, es mi gran honor y gusto compartirles el Kickstarter para mi tesis, un corto animado titulado “In a Heartbeat”! Mi pareja de trabajo y buena amiga, Beth David, y yo hemos estado trabajando en este proyecto desde hace ya un año en mi universidad, Ringling College of Art + Design. Este corto trata sobre un niño al cual se le escapa su corazon para perseguir al niño de sus sueños. Nuestro corto sigue bajo producción y sera completado en la primavera del siguiente año, pero hasta ese entonces, necesitamos recaudar fondos para contratar a un compositor y a un diseñador de sonido. Something I did for my Perspective class last semester. We had to design a living space for a character in a film and I decided to go with Edna Mode from The Incredibles. I studied the film’s “art of” book and wanted to make something  that would be fit in the world of The Incredibles. I was inspired by the abstract artwork of Lou Romano and came up with this.
